North End trash sorry Leeds Preston North End 4-1 Leeds Utd
Leeds Utd came to town, for the first time
since last season’s
playoff nightmare. Paul Simpson’s side currently sit in 2nd
position, with Leeds second off bottom. A crowd of 16,000 were
in for a trick and a treat!
Paul Simpson had a full squad to pick from, only Patrick Agyemang
and Callum Davidson missing out as a precaution. The kick off was
delayed due to the Leeds fans suffering heavy traffic.
North End started the game really well,
making Leeds look like a very poor outfit. Preston’s sheer
dominance paid off when in-form striker Danny Dichio got on the
end of a Nugent cross.
The big striker netted his forth goal of the season with a near
post header.
Preston kept the pressure on Leeds banging
in a second goal, as Leeds suffered a fright! David Nugent was
put through down the
right flank. Nugent’s lightning fast pace outdid Matthew
Kilgallon as he raced past him. Nugent waited for Danny Pugh’s
run, centred the ball for Pugh to slide home.
Leeds offered absolutely nothing in the
first half, failing to muster up a single shot on goal. North
End dominated the first
half. Signs of home dominance this season is starting to look good.
The first half came to an end, when Preston didn’t want it
to. North End was well on top, battering Leeds all over the park.
Preston started the second half where they ended the first. David
Nugent scored his first home goal of the season to put North End
three goals to the good. Simon Whaley gave former Preston player
Eddie Lewis a torrid time, cutting inside and outside. Whaley found
the space and time to cross the ball for the advancing Nugent to
tap in from 5 yards.
The Leeds players look demoralised, they
had nothing to offer. Simpson’s men kept up their brilliant
play, denying Leeds from any attacks. Leeds pulled a consolation
goal back, with only
their second shot of the night. It was two former PNE players,
Cresswell and Healy who combined to grab a goal back.
The Preston fans were cheering again minutes
later when Lewis Neal’s deflected shot found its way past Stack in the Leeds
goal. The match came to a end, what a game, what a performance.
North End’s impressive form continues, keeping their place
in second.
