Stalemate at the Ricoh
0-0![]()
Preston North End and Coventry City battled out a goalless draw at the Ricoh Arena. The three points was there for the taking, North End coming closest to taking them back to Deepdale.
Irvine started the same team that totally outplayed Charlton before the International break. Irvine had grilled the players during the break and admitted that he might have over done it slightly. It was a late hot summers day in Coventry, there was a muggy feeling around the Ricoh as the players came out of the tunnel.
Chances was few and far between in the first half, Sean St Ledger came closest when he hit the bar from a corner kick. Barry Nicholson should have given North End the lead towards the end of the first half, Billy Jones played the former Aberdeen midfielder in, who couldn't direct his shot into the net.
Ledger came close again for PNE playing in all yellow. St Ledger found himself unmarked in the Coventry box, he failed to keep his header down as it flew over the bar. Lonergan at the over end deserved his clean sheet, denying Clinton Morrison towards the end of the match, with a great finger tip save.
