North End stay unbeaten after Forest win

Preston North End 2-1

Preston North End remained unbeaten in the Championship after a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. Alan Irvine was forced to make one change, Richard Chaplow was missing through injury so Darren Carter stepped in.

North End started well, Darren Carter having the first effort of the evening, just firing wide of the goal. The home side kept Forest pegged in their own half, creating chance after chance but failing to make a breakthrough. Carter went close again, along with Nicholson and McKenna.

It was all square at half time, Preston well on top with Lonergan only having to make one smart save in the first half. It didn't take long for North End to find the net in the second period. Youl Mawene found himself totally unmarked at the back post, to nod the ball into an empty net.

Neil Mellor was on target minutes later after a super move from North End. A Forest attacked was broken down in midfield, McKenna played in Nicholson who had time and space to pick out Mellor at the back post to nod the ball home. Preston were very comfortable, until somehow Forest pulled a goal back.

Mawene scored at both ends, turning in a cross which should have been dealt with into his own net. The final fifteen minutes was nervy for the Preston faithful, North End held on well to grab the three points. It's a great start for the Lilywhites, four wins and two draws after just six matches.
