Chappers & Bazza put North End joint top!

Preston North End2-0

Goals from Barry Nicholson and Richard Chaplow gave North End their second straight league win to put them joint top of the Championship. Alan Irvine has already squashed the chance of promotion saying it's only early days.

North End started the match in excellent fashion, the unveiling of the new stand giving the players a mini boost. McKenna and Chaplow ran the show in the middle for the first period, North End had a handful of corners, coming close after St Ledger's shot was blocked off the line.

It was Barry Nicholson who broken the deadlock after 58 minutes on the clock. The summer signing from Aberdeen pounced on a loose ball after Mellor's shot was deflected. Nicholson's effort seemed to have taken a deflection on route to goal, but he was credited his first goal for the Lilywhites.

North End sat back after going ahead, soaking up the pressure from Palace. North End looked to break on the counter attack, they did just that in the final minute of the game when Chaplow wrapped the three points up. Chaplow was played in from the right flank, turned his man with a deft touch then slammed the ball home with a cool finish.
