North End play like sheep as home record is lost
0-2
NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Preston North End fell to their first defeat in over 8 years at Deepdale on a Tuesday night. Swansea was the latest team to face the Deepdale floodlights, oh how then enjoyed their first visit in years.
North End started well, Mellor having a great chance in on goal. The former Liverpool man took too long to get his shot away, allowing the defender to get a tackle in. It was Swansea who took the lead, it was a long range effort from all of 40 odd yards. Lonergan should have never been beaten from this range, he was caught twiddling his fingers on his line.
Preston huffed and puffed, but couldn't break down the five man midfield Swansea had set out. As North End pushed for a goal, gaps were left at the back. Swansea gained themselves a penalty, when new boy McEveley fouled in the box. Lonergan couldn't keep out the stop kick as the Welsh team went on to record the three points.
Alan Irvine needs to look strong and hard at his team, a big shake up is needed ahead of the Watford match on Saturday. How Sedgwick was taken off before Carter was a total joke. Only Billy Jones, Barry Nicholson and Sedgwick himself can come away with any credit from tonight's match.
