Wallce & Jones - a grand win

Preston North End 2-0 Watford

North End put on a better display against Watford, putting Saturday's defeat at Brammel Lane behind them. Preston welcomed loan signing Wayne Brown from Hull City, Brown went straight into the starting eleven with Billy Jones slotting in central midfield, St Ledger moving to right back. Chris Sedgwick, who had an excellent first half against Sheffield Utd was rested.

The first half was an even encounter, Watford having the best chance of the first half hour, hitting the bar from yards out. It was O'Toole who somehow hit the crossbar with a point blank header. North End played some good football but failed to break down a stuburn Watford defence. North End finally managed to do so, minutes before the whistle.

Ross Wallace's pin point cross found Nicholson at the back post who in turn headed back accross goal for Billy Jones to nod the ball home. North End scored at the perfect time, Watford went in at the break a goal down. The second half was more of the same for Preston, Jon Parking wasn't getting the rub of the green from the referee having some dubious decisions made against him.

The match was all but won after 68 minutes, the impressive Ross Wallace found a way past keeper Richard Lee. Wallace who had switched over to the right wing, cut inside his marker and rifled a low effort on goal. Lee in the Watford net tumbled the ball as it whipped up past him to give North End a two goal lead.

Watford had no way back, North End looked pretty solid with the also impressive Wayne Brown keeping it nice and simple at the back with Youl Mawene. Mellor and Whaley came on late in the game for the hard working Stephen Elliott and man of the match Wallace. Preston now go into this Saturday's match against Southampton with confidence of another three points.
