Poor performance sees North End’s exit

By Alex Higgins

A very poor performance from a full strength North End team was pounced on from League 1 leaders Port Vale. North End never looked like getting going as Port Vale enjoyed most of the early pressure although North End had spells in there where they could have nicked a goal. Luke Chilvers was as ever pumping the long ball forward but as always he never found a yellow shirt.

The game panned out as it started with Port Vale looking most likely to score and after Jason Jarrett nearly scored after a mazy run Port Vales Paul Harsley nearly scored a header when he made a attacking run into the area but luckily for North End the header crept wide.

North End came out in the second half looking to improve on their 1st half performance and Sedgwick nearly gave North End the lead with a shot after good work from Paul McKenna. Port Vale then took the lead as Sodje headed home after a perfect cross-met Constantine who then flicked on to give Sodje an easy goal. Simmo then opted to change things and brought on Patrick Agyemang for a tired Jason Jarrett.

North End then levelled things 17 minutes from time as Simon Whaley put a 10-yard shot low of Mark Goodlad’s goal and the ball nestled into the corner after Whaley did well to work himself some space. 10 minutes later Vale lead again as Sodje ran at the North End defence and played a through ball to Constantine who put a low shot under Carlo Nash into the corner of the goal, the PNE defence had easily been opened up after Matt Hill slipped when trying to tackle Constantine.

The yellows then wasted a few corners to get back into the game in the dying minutes and the ref blew up after a disappointing display by what is North End’s starting 11.

This was the worst I’ve seen North End play all season, we now face a tough trip to Southampton where Ricardo Fuller will be playing against his old team, I’m dreading seeing Ricardo on a 1 on 1 with Chilvers. Things are looking bad right now but hopefully a decent result V Southampton can put spirits right at the Club.

Keep the Faith
