Barnsley stun North End
1-2
Barnsley stunned North End at Deepdale on Saturday, condemning Alan Irvine to his first defeat in eight games. The visitors took the lead via the impressive Diego Leon, his free kick good enough to beat any keeper in the world. North End badly missed the injured Chris Brown, there was no end product in the final third.
Karl Hawley started his first game in eight matches, he didn't impress at all. The Deepdale exit door looms for the former Carlisle striker. It was former PNE favorite Jon Macken who doubled Barnsley's lead from the spot after Billy Jones was deemed to have fouled Campbell-Ryce.
North End got lucky when they pulled a goal back, substitute Richard Chaplow's lobbed cross into the boxed was headed in by Taylor. Preston failed to create anymore chances as Barnsley held on for the three points. One more point would all but keep North End in the Championship next season.
North End go to sleep at QPR
2-2
Alan Irvine was four minutes away from celebrating another three points in the Championship. The board went up for extra time, as North End totally switched off. North End were dominant all game and deserved to take the lead midway through the fist half.
In-form Neil Mellor was in the right place to volley home a corner kick from Paul McKenna. North End had further chances in the first half, who went in more than happy to be in the lead at half time. Mellor went off at half time, Priskin replacing him. It was Priskin who doubled Preston's lead, after some good work from Sedgwick.
North End then went to bed as QPR grabbed two late, late goals. Former Preston player Gareth Ainsworth scored a neat lobbed volley then set up the homes sides second goal. All in all this shows how far Preston have come, only taking a point away from home.
